Stand Up 4 Transportation

Via Travel Trainer Brent Belisle will speak at Stand Up 4 Transportation Unity Rally on Thursday, April 9 at the Union Station Wynkoop Plaza in Denver. This event is part of a national advocacy day sponsored by American Public Transit Association (APTA), RTD, CDOT and Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRGOG) to call attention to the importance of infrastructure investment and the need for a long-term surface transportation authorization bill.  MAP-21, which is the federal surface transportation legislation, expires on May 31.

Belisle will talk about why transportation funding is important to those in the Denver region that experience mobility or cognitive challenges in their lives and the importance of being able to access transportation options.  He will be joined by the directors of RTD, CDOT, DRCOG, Mayor Hancock of Denver and members of Congress.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a Unity March and Parade from Market Street Plaza (16th & Market) to Denver Union Station Plaza.  One of Via’s new compressed natural gas MV-1 accessible vehicles will be in the parade. The Denver event joins 79 other Stand Up 4 Transportation Day events happening at the same time across the country.

“Stand Up for Transportation Day is a single day when all transportation organizations and their coalition partners unite in common purpose with a unified message,” said APTA Chair Phillip Washington, who serves as general manager and chief executive officer of Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD).  “It’s time to set aside partisanship and once again act in the best interest of our country to repair, strengthen and build transportation infrastructure.”
