According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one out of three older adults fall each year. Many seniors who fall, even if they are not injured, develop a fear of falling, and their fear may cause them to limit their activities.
Ninety-seven-year-old Caroline M. is acutely aware of these statistics because she has seen over and over again what happens when her elderly acquaintances fall. Being careful is top of mind for Caroline.
She relies on her walker for support so if any particular place is not easily accessible and accommodating, she marks it off her list—she just doesn’t go there.
When Caroline first starting using Via to attend a church service in Boulder, she was pleased to learn that the drivers were all about safety first.
“I’m always ‘hyper’ about falling even when using my walker,” Caroline said. “I’ve been impressed by how much the Via drivers focus on my safety. They are very careful and reliable. I appreciate that they always take me to the door.”
Via drivers are trained to transport passengers who use canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen, catheters, dialysis grafts, or similar medical aids. Our service is always door-to-door and driver-assisted; although we respect clients’ preferences on the level of assistance.
Caroline enjoys being active – she attends an exercise class, goes for walks when the weather is nice, does her own grocery shopping and enjoys occasional evenings out. But wherever she goes she needs some assurance that she can do it safely and securely. With Via she has that assurance.
