Local hospitals support access to healthcare with dollars for trips

Easy access to medical care is important for the health, function and quality of life for older adults. Seniors who are unable to complete basic daily activities due to illness, chronic disease or illness may not be able to stay home and age in place.

Recognizing that transportation is an essential link in the continuum of care for older adults and people with disabilities, local hospital systems are long-time supporters of Via.  In the last year we received financial support from the following:

  • Avista Adventist Hospital
  • Boulder Community Hospital
  • Longmont United Hospital
  • Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center
  • Platte Valley Medical Center

Hillary-and-John-Hicks,-Platte-Valley-MCcorpThanks to their support and from many others in the community, Via provided more than 26,000 trips for access to health care in 2013 at a cost of just over $1 million. This reflects a 10 percent increase in medical trips compared to 2012. And we expect to see the need for this kind of trip increase each year as Colorado’s older adult population continues to grow.
