Addressing trip denials in Longmont

Longmont Clients:

We know you are experiencing greater difficulty in receiving the rides you request. Like you, we are very unhappy with this situation. We currently turn down approximately 3 percent of Longmont trip requests because our schedules are full.

The truth is we are currently at capacity on our paratransit program with the funding we have available to serve the Longmont community. As a nonprofit, we do not have unlimited financial resources available to us.

Below is additional information that may be helpful to you.

What’s changed in Longmont to create this situation?

  • Longmont’s population growth overall.
  • The increase in the older adult and disability populations.
  • Longmont has limited other transportation resources.
  • Last year, for the first time in Via’s 35 years, the number of Longmont residents served equaled that of Boulder, and the demand is increasing.

What Via is doing.

  • We have initiated efficiency measures such as the trip notification calls and Call-n-Ride trip integration to help increase the service capacity we do have.
  • We are working with the city of Longmont for solutions in funding or options in service.

What you can do.

  • If you live near an RTD bus stop, consider enrolling in Via’s travel training program.  Via’s experienced travel trainers will teach you how to use public fixed route in Longmont. Beginning this summer, RTD in Longmont will be free for several months. Call Susan Unger at 303-447-2848, x1048 or email Susan.
  • Talk with one of our mobility specialists to see if Access-a-Ride or Call-n-Ride might work for you. Call Barb Borg at 303-447-2848 x1047 or email Barb.
  • Reach out to your Longmont City Council members and let them know how much Via means to you and how essential the service is in your life. Your local elected officials want to know about issues affecting the lives of their constituents.

Don’t give up on us.  We are doing everything we can.  Thank you for understanding.
